As it was Election Day Hollywood used democratic voting to vote for the new Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Eco Committee. Lots of staff and pupils read the manifestos and cast their vote. The results of the secret ballot will be announced soon!
Year 2 decided to vote democratically to name the butterflies that are developing in their cocoons in 2BP. The winning names were Rainbow, Poppe, Ryanair, Fluttershy and Katie Rosy.
Year 2 and Year 1 buddied up to share some fantastic books in our first Friday Reading Buddy session. We are hoping to make this a regular event in KS1 and all the children cheered that they had enjoyed it.
Here are some of the comments the children made:-
Abbie and Jack – It was funny in our book when the goods fell into the water.
Harrison and Max – No Bot the Robot. We liked it when he lost is bottom because it was really funny.
Lathan and Jessica – We liked Diary of a Wimpy Kid
Grace – It is fun and we make friends and listen to different books that we haven’t read before
Cody and Josh – I liked reading Bad Buster with Josh.
Josa and Louis – I liked it because it made me feel kind and special
Joel and Thomas – I got to see my friend from Year 1 in class time.
Emily with Dylan and Darcy – We read The Park in the Dark together.
Thank you to all children and staff who came to school dressed as a book character to celebrate World Book Day. We all had a lovely day! We were introduced to our new school Librarian Mrs Haddock and a real author Mr David Flint visited us to talk about his books. Many children came back for the evening storytelling event. The hot chocolates and biscuits were very popular!
We learned that World Book Day is celebrated in over 100 countries around the world and this year is the 18th World Book Day being celebrated.
Mr Ryan won the best staff costume for being a dragon! There was a prize given to one child in each year group, whose prize was a new book. Many children took part in the book exchange too, swapping a book they no longer wanted for another one that another child wanted to swap.
We will look forward to World Book Day 2016!
It is World Book Day this Thursday (5th March)! We are looking forward to seeing the children (and teachers) in a variety of wonderful costumes as characters from books we know and love.
